WAHL SHAVERS & CLIPPERS

SHAVERS
Q. How long should foils last?
A. Depending on use, a foil should last from 4-6 months. To get the longest life, don't press hard when shaving. The foils are extra thin for a close shave. Pushing hard will cause the foil to contact the cutter bar and damage may occur.

Q. How do I know if my shaver is still under warranty?
A. With the receipt, the two-year warranty period begins on the day of purchase. Without the receipt, it begins on the date the shaver was manufactured. Look on the bottom of your shaver, near the power cord. The first set of numbers you will find indicates the week of the year the shaver was manufactured. The second set is the year.

COMMON TRIMMER AND CLIPPER QUESTIONS
Q. How do I get the most life from my rechargeable trimmer?
A. NiCad battery life capacity may be improved with the following procedures. Once per month, let the trimmer run until the motor stops. Then, shut the switch "Off" and recharge fully.

Q. What happens if I already have a unit that is not holding a charge because I never ran the battery completely dead?
A. It is sometimes possible to rejuvenate the battery by completely running the unit dead and turning it OFF and recharging it. Performing this Procedure three to four days in a row and it sometimes possible to rejuvenate the battery to original strength.

Q. I have only had my cordless trimmer/clipper for two months and it won't work anymore, or it only works for a few minutes before it stops, is there a problem with my unit?
A. On any cordless rechargeable product, you must use the unit frequently to keep it operating properly. As stated in the instruction booklet, you should run the trimmer's/clipper's battery completely dead at least once a month, otherwise, if you only use the unit two minutes every day eventually it will work for only two minutes between charges. Thus, to prolong the life of your unit, you should completely discharge the battery at least once a month by leaving the unit out of the stand between uses and running it until it stops.

Q. What is the best way to run a unit's battery dead?
A. Simply turn the unit "ON" and either lay it down or set it in the charging stand when the stand is unplugged. IMPORTANT: Do not leave the unit in the "ON" position after the unit has run dead. Once the battery is dead, immediately turn the switch to "OFF" and plug in the stand to recharge completely.

Q. How do I align my blades?

ALIGNING BLADES

1) The bottom blade holes are larger than the shanks of the blade screws. When the blade screws are loosened the bottom blade can be aligned with the top blade. Tighten the screws after the blade is aligned and ensure that they are kept tight.

2) The end of the top blade teeth should be aligned 1/32" to 1/16"(.79mm to 1.59m") back from and parallel to the bottom blade. It is important to align your blade properly to ensure that the clipper does not cut too close and to prevent the moving cutter from touching the skin.
3) The extreme left hand tooth of the top blade must be covering or be to the left of the first small tooth of the bottom blade.
4) The extreme right hand tooth of the top blade must be touching the big tooth of the bottom blade.

Q. My clipper/trimmer is making a loud "clunking" sound, is it broken?
A. No, the unit is not broken. Rather, it is not properly tuned and as such it is not operating at maximum power. To adjust power (tune), turn the power screw in a clockwise direction until you hear a noise. Then, slowly turn the power screw out (counter-clockwise) until the noise stops. This is maximum power.

Q. How often should I oil my clipper?
A. OILING CAUTION - In order to ensure that you get the most life and performance out of your clipper or trimmer, we recommend that you oil your unit before each use. To oil properly, the unit should be held in such a way that the blades are in a downward position. With the clipper or trimmer blade running, dispense 2-3 drops of oil across the top blade. (Use Wahl Clipper Oil ONLY! Other oils will gum up the blades.)

Wipe off the excess oil so it does not run into the motor compartment. Oil in the motor compartment will eventually lead to a poor motor performance. Blades should be oiled after using disinfectant or sanitizing solution.

Clipper Maintenance

Your Wahl clipper blades were oiled and aligned before leaving our factory; however, it is possible for blades to get bumped out of alignment. Blades must be realigned if they have been removed for cleaning or replacement.

  1. If your clipper has a taper lever - position the taper lever in the close cut position.

  2. End of top blade teeth should be approximately 1/32" (.64mm) back from bottom blade. This is important so that the clipper does not cut too close or allow the moving cutter to touch the skin.

  3. Extreme left-hand tooth of top blade must be covering or to the left of the first small tooth of bottom blade.

  4. Extreme right-hand tooth of top blade must be touching the big tooth on the bottom blade.

If blade alignment is incorrect, add a few drops of oil to the blades, turn clipper "ON" for a few moments, turn "OFF" and unplug. Loosen screws slightly and adjust. Tighten screws after blades are aligned.

OIL The blades of your new clipper should be oiled every few haircuts. Simply place a few drops of oil on the teeth of the blades. Use only the Wahl oil included in the pack. Due to the high speed of your Wahl clipper, the correct type of oil must be used. Do not use hair oil, grease or any oil mixed with kerosene or any solvent, as the solvent will evaporate and leave the thick oil slowing down the blades. Wahl Clipper Oil is a very thin, natural oil which will not evaporate and will not slow
down the blades.

POWER SCREW (Not found on all models of Wahl Clippers)

If your clipper has a power screw, it has been adjusted for peak efficiency before leaving the factory. However, if voltage in your home is low, you may need to readjust it.

To adjust power, use the plastic brush, a screwdriver or a thin coin to turn power screw in a clockwise direction until the arm strikes the coil, making a noise. Then, slowly turn power screw out (counterclockwise), just until noise stops. This is the maximum power setting.

The cord should not be used to pull the clipper. Since freedom of movement needs to be maintained, care should be used to keep the cord untwisted and unobstructed. When stored, the cord should be coiled and the unit placed in original box or storage pouch.

This clipper has been designed for household use.

TAPER LEVER

Some Wahl clippers are equipped with an adjustable taper lever. The taper lever is conveniently located near your thumb (if you're right-handed), so it can easily be adjusted while the clipper is in your hand.
The taper lever adds versatility to your clipper by allowing you to gradually change the closeness of your cut without a guide comb. When the lever is in the uppermost position, the blades will give you the closest cut and leave the hair very short. Pushing the lever downward gradually increases the cutting length. In its lowest position, the taper lever will leave the hair approximately the same length as the 1/8" guide comb.

The taper lever will also extend the use of your blades since a different cutting edge is used in each setting. In addition, if extremely heavy haircutting has jammed the blades, it will help you remove hair that has become wedged between the two blades without removing the blades. While the clipper is running, rapidly move the lever from "close cut" to "longer cut" a couple of times. Doing this each time you've finished using your clipper will help keep the blades clear of cut hair. If your clipper stops cutting and this does not help, your cutting blades may be dull. Either replace them or return them to Wahl for sharpening.
